CUSTOMER HONORS SYSPRO FOR "CREATION OF REVOLUTIONARY MODULE"

COSTA MESA, Calif. -- December 5, 2002 -- SYSPRO announced that the company is the proud recipient of a "best-of-breed" award from customer Tri-Star Plastics Corp.  Tri-Star chose to honor SYSPRO for the company's development of the Materials Yield System.  The award, consisting of a glass-encased, folded American flag, symbolizes the August 5, 2002, "go-live" date of the Materials Yield System at Tri-Star headquarters in the Boston, Mass., suburb of Shrewsbury.

On this same date, the encapsulated flag actually flew over the United States Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.  The accompanying plaque reads, "The hard work and dedication in the creation of this revolutionary module distinguishes SYSPRO and its development team as "Best of Breed."

Brian Stein, SYSPRO USA President, said of the award, "We are indeed proud and very flattered by this honor.  It's extremely rare, if not unheard of, for a customer to honor a software company for the development of a software solution.  We accept this award graciously and look upon it as a standard against which to measure our future efforts."

Richard Cedrone, President of Tri-Star Plastics Corp., noted, "We worked with SYSPRO on developing a software solution to solve one of the cut-shape market's most pressing problems, that of dealing with remnants.  Not only did the breadth and depth of the resulting solution exceed our expectations, but we were also awed by the outstanding cooperation and enthusiasm of the SYSPRO development team.  The uniqueness of the award, an American flag that actually flew over our nation's capitol, is meant to symbolize the uniqueness of the software solution and the company which developed it.  The implications of the Materials Yield System to the Plastics Industry, as well as other industries involved in custom cutting, are significant.  I know that SYSPRO spent thousands of man-hours in developing the software, and it is this type of focus that elevates them way above the others in the software industry."

The Materials Yield System also prompted Start Magazine to bestow its "2001 Vision Award" to SYSPRO and to name SYSPRO a "2002 Hot Company."  Additionally, SYSPRO has been nominated for a number of other prestigious industry awards for the Materials Yield System.

The SYSPRO Materials Yield System (MYS) is an optional extension to the in-depth inventory capabilities of the SYSPRO enterprise software solution.  The MYS, which enables cut-shape suppliers to fill orders to customer-specific dimensional requirements, automatically calculates yields from full sheets and remnants and returns remnants to inventory, creating a new part number.

The system accommodates orders from existing inventory, another branch's inventory and the purchasing of material from a vendor, or a combination of each.  Moreover, the MYS enables salespersons to easily calculate the most efficient yields from existing inventory, including scraps, while on the phone with customers, thereby eliminating extensive hand calculations and delays in order confirmations.  The calculations take into account such factors as shapes and blade widths.

The SYSPRO Materials Yield System is specifically designed for suppliers, such as Tri-Star, that sell custom cut materials.  Rather than purchasing standard size items, customers can order materials that are cut to specific measurements.  However, custom cutting typically leads to the creation of remnants during the cutting process.  Many suppliers consider these remnants "waste," since they cannot justify the time and effort necessary to physically measure, value and assign inventory numbers for their return to stock.

Custom cut orders require suppliers to determine how the cuts can best be made from standard size sheets, rods and tubes in order to maximize yields and minimize scraps.  Blade widths must also be considered.  Prior to the SYSPRO MYS, this procedure required significant labor time to gauge:  if the order could be filled from existing inventory, if additional materials had to be secured from another branch's inventory, made or purchased in order to satisfy the order, how to make the required cuts to maximize yields and how to allow for blade widths.

In other words, numerous calculations and decisions were necessary to determine how to best fill orders in the most expeditious and cost-effective manner.  The Materials Yield System automates this process, greatly saving time and eliminating costly miscalculations that can adversely affect profitability.  Furthermore, when the system places remnants back into inventory, it automatically creates new inventory codes and updates the cost of goods sold on that line item.  Remnants returned to stock can be put back at zero cost or have a value placed according to needs.

The Materials Yield System produces savings in numerous ways.  Waste is significantly reduced with remnants returned to stock.  Remnants can become first-line inventory from which new orders are calculated.  With the system's ability to make yield calculations automatically, the training time for new employees is minimized and sales professionals can devote more time to selling.  Resources spent on mismanaging remnants are also greatly minimized.
