Office Automation

Faxing and emailing uses MAPI calls. IMPACT Encore 5.x and SYSPRO 6.0 work when using the Extended MAPI calls and not the Simple MAPI calls.

The following is a list of Office Automation products that have been tested and are known to work with IMPACT Encore 5.x and SYSPRO 6.0. Please note that if a product is not on this list, it is not supported.

3-tier SQL Server version of Encore Version 5.x or SYSPRO Version 6.0

A 3-tier SQL Server version allows users to install and run SQL Server on a different server to the application server that results in better utilization of the application server's resources. When running a 3-tier SQL Server system, the system is configured as follows:

System Requirements

The application server is connected to the SQL server by means of a Data Source Name (DSN) defined on the application server (which is also written to Encore's/SYSPRO's IMPACT.INI file) using TCP/IP.

System Requirements

Client

  • Memory

  • Standalone machine not running SQL Server - 64mb

  • Client linked to Application Server - 64mb

  • Standalone machine running SQL Server - 128mb

  • 800 x 600 resolution

  • Pentium II 350 processor

  • Internet Explorer 4.0 or later

  • Office 97 or later if integration from Version 5.0 to Word and/or Excel is required.

  • Microsoft Outlook if the To-do-list facility is required.

Server

Guidelines for size of server required

As a guideline for the amount of memory required on a NT4/WIN2000 server, the following formula is being applied:

  • 512 MB of memory for the operating system and ± 6MB of memory per Encore user.

As a guideline for the amount of memory required on a UNIX server, the following formula is being applied:

  • 128MB of memory for the operating system and ± 6MB of memory per Encore user.

All processors mentioned are Intel® Pentium® III processors.

C-ISAM Database

This may only be a 2-tier system (i.e. Application and Database on same server).

NT Server

  • Up to 15 users

  • Processor - 700Mhz or higher

  • Memory - 600MB or higher

  • Over 15 users

  • Processor - 700Mhz or higher

  • Memory - minimum of 600MB

  • For recommended memory, multiply number of users by 6 and then add 512.

Unix Server

  • Up to 15 users

  • Processor - 500Mhz or higher

  • Memory - 200MB or higher

  • Over 15 users

  • Processor - 700Mhz or higher

  • Memory - minimum of 200MB

  • For recommended memory, multiply number of users by 6 and then add 128.

SQL database

This can either be a 2 or 3-tier system, but the Application and Database servers will both need to be NT4 or Win2000.

2-Tier (Both Application And SQL Database On Same Server)

  • Up to 15 users

  • Processor - dual 800Mhz or higher

  • Memory - 1GB or higher

  • 15 to 30 users

  • Processor - dual 800Mhz or higher

  • Memory - 1.2GB or higher (3-tier recommended)

  • Over 30 users

  • Not recommended - should be 3-tier system

Hard Drives

At least two SCSI hard drives. The hard drive size is relative to the company data files and should be at least three times the data size:

  • First hard drive will contain the operating system, SQL Server 7.0/2000 and IMPACT Encore.

  • Second hard drive will contain the tempdb and db log.

3-Tier (Application And SQL Database On Different Servers)

Application Server

  • Up to 15 users

  • Processor - 700Mhz or higher

  • Memory - 600MB or higher

  • 15 to 30 users

  • Processor - 700Mhz or higher

  • Memory - minimum of 600MB

  • Over 30 users

  • Processor - 700Mhz or higher

  • Memory - minimum of 700MB

  • For recommended memory, multiply number of users by 6 and then add 512.

SQL Server

  • Up to 15 users

  • Processor - 700Mhz or higher

  • Memory - 700MB or higher

  • 15 to 30 users

  • Processor - 700Mhz or higher

  • Memory - 1GB or higher

As the number of users increases more processors and memory will be required.
